Innovation Village Launches Science Discovery Centre

Today marks the official launch of the Science Discovery Centre, a vibrant and dynamic haven designed to ignite a passion for science among young, curious minds.  

Nestled within the STEM Centre under the EdTech Lab at Innovation Village, this revolutionary space promises to transform the educational landscape by making science engaging, interactive, and accessible to children. 

The Science Discovery Centre features interactive and captivating environments that encourage exploration with curiosity, wonder, and a sense of responsibility. These meticulously designed hands-on exhibits and workshops aim to make learning an engaging and enjoyable experience. The center covers a broad spectrum of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, from reconstructing fundamental science concepts to showcasing cutting-edge technologies. 

Martin Kafeero, the Science Centre Lead at Innovation Village, emphasized the significance of this launch in advancing the love of science among children at a young age.  

“The launch is a milestone in promoting STEM education and inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators,” said Kafeero. Adding through the center, we aim to transform how science is perceived and taught by emphasizing the importance of interactive learning through creating a space where children can experiment, ask questions, and discover answers on their own, the Science Discovery Centre seeks to cultivate a generation of critical thinkers and innovators.” 

Kafeero added, “The Science Discovery Centre is not just about learning; it seeks to cultivate a generation of critical thinkers and innovators. We will foster a sense of wonder and responsibility among children. We want every child who walks through our doors to leave with a greater appreciation for science and its impact on our daily lives.” 

Speaking at the launch, Monica Musenero, the Minister for Science Technology and Innovation, highlighted the crucial role facilities like the Science Discovery Centre play in promoting STEM education, essential for building a knowledge-based economy.  

“By providing interactive and engaging learning environments, the center makes complex scientific concepts accessible and enjoyable for young learners. This early exposure to STEM disciplines is vital for cultivating a generation of skilled professionals who can contribute to Uganda’s technological and industrial advancement,” Musenero said. 

The Science Discovery Centre’s hands-on exhibits and workshops encourage children to answer questions, experiment, and explore new ideas, enhancing their understanding of scientific principles and nurturing an innovative mindset. This is essential for developing a workforce capable of addressing the challenges of the 21st century. 

Musenero said, “The center fits into Uganda’s STI Vision 2040 and serves as a hub for collaboration between educators, scientists, industry experts, and policymakers. It ensures that the discipline of science remains relevant to the latest scientific advancements and industry needs. By investing in the scientific literacy and creativity of its youth, Uganda is laying the foundation for a prosperous and technologically advanced future.” 

In its ongoing effort to advance the integration and adoption of technology within education, Innovation Village remains committed to inspiring and providing a holistic approach to learning. “We believe that by making science engaging and interactive, we can nurture a lifelong love for learning in children. 

The Science Discovery Centre is set to redefine how science is taught and experienced, emphasizing the importance of interactive learning. By fostering an environment where children can experiment, ask questions, and discover answers, the center seeks to cultivate a generation of critical thinkers and innovators, poised to lead Uganda into a technologically advanced future.
